New York Nets Team History

As one of two professional American football team located in the New York metropolitan area, the Jets compete in the American Football Conference (AFC) East division of the National Football League (NFL).

In fact, the Green Gang shares MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with the New York Giants of the NFL’s National Football Conference (NFC).

First of all, the New York Jets were founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York. Furthermore, they were a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). Finally, the team joined NFL when the two leagues merged in 1970.

After the Jets advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 1968, they went on to compete in Super Bowl III. Most noteworthy, they defeated the Baltimore Colts. In fact, this was the Jets’ only Super Bowl appearance.

While, the New York Jets have appeared in the playoffs 13 times since 1968, they they have won the AFC East Championship four times. Although they won the championship in 2010, they lost losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
