Staff at Vietnamese Resort Get Trained in Butlering

The Nam Hai resort in Central Vietnam is establishing itself as a breeding ground for butlers, inviting representatives of the Guild of Professional English Butlers to spend three weeks at the five star resort grooming its team of butlers and other interested staff in the fine art of first class stewardship.

Front office personnel and landscaping attendants were among those taking part.

“Our goal has always been to set new hospitality standards not just in Vietnam, but also in Asia,” says John Blanco, General Manager of The Nam Hai, a beach front resort located near the historic city of Hoi An in Central Vietnam.

“Getting the Guild here – an organization that’s been involved in the set up of butler departments at five star hotels from Central Vietnam to South Beach – is testament to that.”

Among the topics Guild trainers addressed during their visit were all manner of guest requests, the handling cultural differences, and the importance of personal engagement.

Trainers from the school, which is based in Greater London, will return each year.

“The beauty of a well-oiled butler programme is that there is no ceiling,” John says.

“With a resort’s hardware, what you see is what you get, and we’re fortunate at The Nam Hai to have what we’ve got. But with butlers, the sky is the limit. You can always provide higher levels of service.”

The Nam Hai is situated on 35 hectares of landscaped tropical gardens overlooking the East Sea. It is an exclusive, all villa property featuring 60 one room villas and 40 pool villas with from one to five bedrooms, each with its own infinity pool.

There are two gourmet restaurants, a tropical spa beside a lagoon, and three swimming pools.
