Tibetan Airlines Takes Flight, Hopes to Fly to Europe

Tibet Airlines is giving new meaning to the expression, “flying high”.

With a fleet of three Airbus A319s, Tibet Airlines has launched service to Lhasa and Ngari in Tibet, Chengdu in Sichuan Province, and several other cities in China.

Tibet Airlines hopes to launch flights to Europe within four to five years.

“Such a service would have a major impact on the tourism industry in Tibet as people could come for much shorter trips since they won’t need to transit,” The China Guide says.

“Tibet has also had an upgrade to its major highways in the past decade, and road work continues. Thus the region is in the position to handle an increase in foreign and domestic visitors.”

Private tours are regulary organized by The China Guide to Tibet.  These can also be part of a complete China itinerary
