Hong Kong: Tsai Hang Village Has Some New Twists on Hairy Crabs

It’s Hairy Crab Season, and that’s about all that Chinese foodies are talking about!

Well, almost …

But to show you just what a big deal it is, I was in a resort a one hour’s drive from Shanghai last spring, and they were already talking about it!

They said that the hotel would be fully booked during hairy crab season because people would drive all the way from Shanghai just to enjoy hairy crabs closer to the source.

Hairy Crabs with Hong Kong Characteristics

There are outlets of Tsui Hang Village on both sides of Hong Kong’s stunningly beautiful Victoria Harbour, and both will feature hairy crab set menus this fall.

In addition to all of your tried and true favourites (you know what they are so I won’t bother mentioning them), the talented chefs at Tsui Hang Village have cooked up several innovative new hairy crab dishes this year.

Here are some of the new offerings to make their ways unto the Tsui Hang Village menu: Crispy Taro Puffs with Hairy Crab Roe and Caviar (HK$188), Steamed Egg White topped with Hairy Crab Roe (HK$168), Baked Garlic Bread topped with Hairy Crab Roe (HK$188), and Braised Shark’s Fin with Shredded Chicken, Bamboo Fungus, and Hairy Crab Roe (HK$288 per person).
