Oakland Raiders vs New York Jets: Top 10 Post Game Quotes

Facebook was abuzz with calls from Oakland Raiders fans to turn the Black Hole into a No Fly Zone effective 1.05 pm, Pacific Daylight Time, on Sunday 25 December 2011.

And by golly, they seem to have pulled it off! In a stunning reversal of the previous week’s heart breaking loss to the Buffalo Bills, in which the Oakland Raiders squandered a significant lead at half time to fall apart in the third quarter, stage a comeback, and then lose with one second to go on the clock, this time around, the Raiders came from behind and held on to their lead, pulling off a decisive 34-24 victory against the New York Jets, who were their arch rivals in the old American Football League.

Football’s Rowdiest Fans

Did those raucous fans – who proudly refer to themselves as “football’s rowdiest” – play a role in grounding the New York Jets? One Raider referred to them as the team’s “12th man”.

After scouring the Oakland Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury, the New York Times, the New York Daily News, the New York Post, NFL.com, and both team’s websites, I have come up with my Top 10 Post Game Quotes.

I start with a comment from a reporter at the Oakland Tribune and move on with two comments each from the coaches of the Oakland Raiders and the New York Jets. I conclude with random comments from players from both teams, followed by a nostalgic comment from Joe Namath of the New York Jets.

Joe Namath

And now, one final quote from the legendary Joe Namath, whose New York Jets in the now defunct American Football League never managed to win an AFL game at what was then known as the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

“We wanted to beat you,” Joe said of the New York Jets. Then, referring to the Oakland Raiders, he added: “But those SOBs wanted to kill you!”
