Raiders Haunts: The Watering Hole, New York City (Third in a Series)

Restaurant Review

The Watering Hole in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park district morphs from your typical New York City neighborhood bar into the New York headquarters of the Raider Nation on game day during football season.

John Lauro is a full time bartender at the Watering Hole. He is also an avid fan of the Oakland Raiders. And he doesn’t leave anything to chance. “They let me use it for my playground on Sundays,” he laughs.

And this Sunday, with the Raiders facing the undefeated and current Super Bowl Champions, the Green Bay Packers, will be no exception. Patronage has been growing all season as word spreads among Raiders fans that this is their home away from home in the Big Apple, and an exceptionally large crowd of Men and Women in Black are expected at the mid town pub.

Come Early and Wear Black!

“It’s a big game, and we’re expecting one of our best crowds of the season so get there early,” John advises.

Happy Hour will kick off as soon as the doors open at 12 noon with US$4 drafts, US$5 well drinks, and US$5 wine until 7.00 pm.

At 4 pm, every television with sound will be switched to the Raiders vs Packers game, and the volumn will be set at full blast.

And please, don’t even THINK of asking if one of those TV sets can be switched to another game. Unless, of course, you want to be shown the door. . .

The Watering Hole 106 East 19th Street (between Park Avenue and Irving Place), New York, New York. Telephone: (212) 674 5783. W
