The fourth hotel on Michael’s itinerary is L Hotel Seminyak, a boutique hotel in trendy Seminyak, which opened in September 2012. It has a quirky personality that Michael finds endearing. Michael takes advantage of the hotel’s shuttle service to spend the afternoon at trendy beach club with a large swimming pool overlooking the sea and other facilities.
Free Shuttle Service within Greater Seminyak
One of the services offered by L Hotel Seminyak is a complimentary shuttle service to destinations throughout Greater Seminyak. At the suggestion of a member of staff, I decided to check out Potato Head Beach Club, which I was told had a large swimming pool, among other attractions.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was totally blown away. Potato Head Beach Club simply defies easy description.
Situated on a beach that – as with most beaches in Bali – you can’t swim at, Potato Head Beach Club is housed in a dramatic C shaped concrete structure with walls made of 10,000 louvers from the Dutch Colonial Era.
There are three restaurants, a lawn, and a large swimming pool with a bar in the middle. There are also beds accommodating up to six people, with a very reasonable minimum charge.
If you don’t arrive early, you’ll be put on a waiting list that could be as long as three hours. You can while away the time at one of the bars that dot the premises.
My Own Private Lap Pool
I didn’t go there to drink – or eat. I wanted to swim. Much to my surprise, there was no entrance fee. I was allowed to change in the men’s room, but there were no lockers so I just stashed my things behind a sign next to the pool.
I did laps in the splendid swimming pool for one full hour. I appeared to be the only person at Potato Head Beach Club that wanted to swim.
Most of the others in the pool were sipping beer. But the vast majority of patrons that day were either lounging on beds or sitting on bar stools.
Tall Cool One
Before leaving Potato Head Beach Club, I couldn’t resist having a tall cool one. I asked for suggestions at one of the bars. I can’t remember what I ordered. All ll I can say is, “Wow! That was some cocktail!”
In a sentence, Potato Head Beach Club is the place to see and be seen in Seminyak. I left Potato Head Beach Club before the sun set. I can’t begin to imagine what things must be like after dark!
