Bali Part 17
Michael Taylor is currently in Bali, Indonesia, where he is spending three weeks exploring the sights, sampling the food, learning about the culture, and checking out what’s hot and what’s not in one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting travel destinations.
Michael spent one night at Pop Hotel Kuta Beach, a budget hotel offering clean rooms, free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfasts, and cheap rates.
From there, he spent two nights at a boutique hotel in Seminyak followed by two nights at an exclusive resort in Western Bali.
Michael returns to Kuta, where he spends three nights in a stylish resort that offers a welcome change when it comes to mini bars – empty fridges and an on site mini mart!.
Outrageously Expensive Mini Bars
Who doesn’t hate hotel mini bars stuffed with things that are outrageously expensive? I have always said that I wouldn’t mind paying twice what supermarkets charge for a can of beer – for the convenience of not having to leave my room.
But I deeply resent being charged 10 times or more for a can of beer!
So that means leaving the hotel and looking for a mini mart, then returning to the hotel and emptying the fridge of the hotel’s things so that you can put your own things in it.
What a Welcome Surprise!
It was, therefore, a very welcome surprise when I was escorted to my room at the Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali and shown the mini bar, which was completely empty. I was told that there was a mini mart in the hotel selling everything you would normally find in a mini bar – and more!
In addition to soft drinks, fruit juice, and beer there were such things as suntan lotion, medicines, playing cards, and other items that you might want to purchase while staying at a hotel.
A great concept! I hope it catches on!
