As New Zealand joins the small but growing number of cities and nations legalizing same sex marriage, the travel industry is becoming increasingly aware of the potential of the so-called "pink dollar", and promo shots like this one from Southern California in the United States will become increasingly common – and mainstream.  Photo Credit: Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board.

Weddings and Honeymoons

With the historic vote to legalize same sex marriage in New Zealand, the Grand Mercure Puka Park is launching wedding packages targeted at same sex couples. Other hotels and resorts in New Zealand are expected to follow suit.

Marriage ceremonies can be held on the beach or in one of the many garden settings that dot the resort. Sit down wedding receptions can follow in the Puka Room, which can accommodate wedding parties of up to 120 guests.

The resort hotel is undergoing a major refurbishment programme of both its guest rooms and public areas, which will be complete in September 2013 – just in time for a late spring or early summer wedding.

The resort hotel is perched above a sandy beach. It has 42 private tree house styles villas. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, a spa, a sauna, a gym, and tennis courts. Guests can also go fishing or play golf.
