Great Gatbsy: How to Make the Perfect Martini – with a British Twist

Part Four in a Series

With the upcoming release of a movie version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby, The Milestone Hotel in London, England, is serving two cocktails inspired by the movie: The Daisy and the Gatsby. This is the fourth in a series on The Great Gatsby.

When you think about the Great Gatsby and the Jazz Age, you think about martinis. In celebration of the release of The Great Gatsby, the Stables Bar and The Conservatory at the Milestone Hotel in London, England, is serving two cocktails inspired by the movie: the Daisy and the Gatsby.

Think of them as martinis with a modern British twist.

The Daisy – the simple brown spirit-and-ginger ale highball was a common order during the 1920’s. The Milestone Hotel recommends mixing your favorite bourbon with a ginger beer. Created for drinkers to capture their inner independent spirit just like Daisy Buchanan!

The Gatsby – Using gin and vermouth, this Martini is impeccably styled! Add a dash of maraschino liqueur, bitters, and dose of absinthe, and you have yourself The Milestone Hotel’s version of The Tuxedo.

Stephen Bowman, Ollie Baines, and Humphrey Berney of the Brit Award winning vocal group Blake stopped by taste the cocktails.

Their verdict? “We Blake boys certainly enjoy a little 1920′s glamour: the fashions, the music and importantly, the drinks!,” one of them said.

“It was a very fun era, so it feels right to celebrate it in style.”
