Representatives of Central Vietnam are lobbying hard to convince airlines to launch flights linking the Central Vietnamese city of Danang with Bangkok, Thailand.
Several airlines have already launched new routes linking Danang with overseas travel destinations following the opening of a new international airport terminal at Danang International Airport.
With the addition of three weekly flights linking Danang with Seoul, Korea, on 27 October 2013, Korean Air will offer daily service between the Korean capital and Vietnam’s third largest city.
The flights offer easy connections to travel destinations in the United States and Canada.
The Next Phuket?
Asiana Airlines and Vietnam Airlines also link Danang with Seoul. Together the three airlines offer two daily flights linking Seoul with Central Vietnam.
Silk Air will add a seventh weekly flight linking Danang with Singapore on 31 October 2013. The move will allow easy connections to Australia, Britain, and Europe.
Vietnam Airlines launched service to Seoul and Siem Reap, Cambodia, earlier this year.
All of which begs the question: will Danang become the next Phuket?
But Danang has more to offer than spectacular beaches. It offers a host of attractions that should prove a popular draw for tourists around the region.
Dragonair launched a link between Hong Kong and Danang earlier this year. The route has proven so popular that a fourth weekly flight was added in July 2013.
Shanghai Airlines connects the Central Vietnamese city with China’s most populous city. China Eastern Airlines flies to Danang from Beijing. China Southern Airlines flie to Danang from Shenzhen.
“The Central Coast has never been as accessible as it is right now,” said Louk Lennaerts, Chairman of Central Coast Vietnam (CCV), a destination marketing organization comprised of the area’s premier hotels, resorts and golf clubs.
“But Danang’s new airport has the capacity to handle more traffic, and we’re working to open those runways.”
What to Do in Danang
Danang has a growing list of fabulous resort hotels situated along wide stretches of sandy beach and three world class golf courses designed by the likes of Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, and Coliin Montgomerie.
There are temples, palaces, museums, towers, citadels, pagodas, and ramparts.
Not be missed are the three UNESCO World Heritage Sites that are situated within close proximity of Danang.

- Hue is the ancient capital city of Vietnam. Bisected by the Perfume River, it is home to the Citadel and numerous other cultural relics.
