Balinese Adventure Part 4
Upon his arrival at Denpasar International Airport in Bali, Indonesia, Michael Taylor gets a ‘Visa on Arrival’, clears customs, collects his bags, and is driven to an intimate boutique hotel, where a warm welcome awaits.
I won’t mince words. The only thing about travel that I hate more than packing is waiting in line. Thankfully, I live in Hong Kong, where – for holders of smart HKID cards – lines at customs are a thing of the past.
So I was a bit intimated by the length of the line that awaited me upon my arrival at Denpasar International Airport in Bali, Indonesia. I thought things might be better now that the new terminal has opened.
Think again!!! It took me one full hour before I reached the front of the slow moving queue!
Things could only get better, and they did.
I had been assigned a personal butler, whose name was Dika. He had already been in touch by email, asking if I had any special requests.
Dika was waiting for me with one of those signs that tells you that you won’t have to make your own way to the hotel (in my case, it had ‘Michael Taylor’ written on it).
We chatted the entire 50 minutes it took to reach Ametis Villa Bali, the stylish all villa boutique hotel that I was booked into for the next three nights. Talk about intimate. The stylish boutique property has just 14 units!
Shortly after my arrival, I was greeted by the property’s affable General Manager, Akiko Yoshioka. The three of us spent the rest of the late afternoon and early evening ‘hanging out’.
We also enjoyed a VERY yummy dinner at the hotel’s East Meets West eatery, Eternal. But more on that in a future post.
