Balinese Adventure Part 6
On his first full day in Bali, Michael Taylor takes a Balinese cookery class at his hotel. First a trip to the market. Then a trip back to the hotel, where the Executive Chef gives him a Balinese cooking lesson in his private villa.
Following a trip to the market to buy some of the ingredients (the produce but neither the meat nor the fish), we return to Ametis Villa Bali. Upon arrival, I go back to my air-conditioned room, where I work until staff arrive to set things up for the lesson.
Executive Chef Nyoman Mustika teaches the lesson. Hotel General Manager Akiko Yoshioka and Personal Butler Dika come to my villa and observe the proceedings. I guess you could say they are ‘auditing’ the class.
Akiko and Dika seem at least as interested in the lesson as I am! We learn how to cook the following dishes: Minced Chicken Sate (pronounced like ‘satay’), Pepes Ikan (YUM!!!), Seafood and Pineapple Soup, and Indonesian Truffles.
The recipe for Minced Chicken Sate is already live. Recipes for the other 3 dishes will follow shortly.
BTW, if you’re too lazy to cook these dishes yourself, you can always order them next time you’re in Cangcu, Bali, at the Eternal Restaurant, which is located in Ametis Villa Bali..
