Balinese Adventure Part 13
Michael Taylor spends 3 days and 2 nights at a private villa in Seminyak, Bali. Included is a car and driver and a talented chef. Guests pay a 10% service charge over market prices for gourmet meals prepared by the chef.
Villa Basilio is a sprawling 6 bedroom private villa set amid 2,400 square metres of lush, tropical gardens shaded by bamboo, banyan trees, and frangipani trees, a.k.a. plumeria trees.
There are 2 swimming pools, including one you can do laps in. The other would make a better play pool for children.
Four of the bedrooms are located in the main building, which has a kitchen as well as open air dining and sitting areas.
The other 2 bedrooms are housed in stand-alone annexes. Five of the 6 bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.
I spend my 2 nights in the annex at the rear of the property. Three things attract me: the exceptionally high ceiling, the outdoor shower, and the picture frames hanging on the wall without pictures.
Gourmet Meals
As with many private villas in Bali, a chef and car with driver are included in the tariff at Villa Basilio .
Guests pay the market price of the ingredients of the dishes they consume plus a 10% service charge to covers staples that don’t need to be purchased especially for them such as coffee and rice.
They also pay for petrol and over time should be driver be needed beyond 6 pm.
I eat all of my meals at Villa Basilio during my stay, and I must say, the chef wields a mean skillet. The first night I have fish (pictured above). The second night I have steak. Both are perfected cooked.
All 6 meals of the meals I have during my stay are excellent. My favourites are the mie goreng, or Indonesian fried noodles, and the satay chicken.
Location, Location, Location
On the one hand, Villa Basilio is located in a quiet, secluded lane. On the other hand, it is a short walk from one of Seminyak’s best streets for dining and shopping.
Gado Gado Beach – with its food and beverage outlets and live music – is just 700 metres
