United States: Marchers in Seattle Pride Parade Urged to Wear Red Armbands

Festivals and Holidays

Marchers in Seattle’s Pride Parade plan to wear red armbands to celebrate the lives of ‘those we have lost’ and remember ‘how much we have to be thankful for in the freedoms we have in life today’.

The theme for the 2014 Seattle Pride Parade is ‘Generations of Pride’, which is intended to ‘honour those who fought the early battles and those continuing to advocate for equality in changing times’.

Some marchers and spectators in the 2014 Seattle Pride Parade are planning to wear red armbands on their left arms to commemorate the lives of ‘those we have lost’ who helped make the world a better place for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community.

They are urging other member of the LGBT community and their supporters to do the same.

Generations of Pride

“This Sunday June 29th, the theme for Seattle Pride is ‘Generations of Pride’,” explains Erlk Taylor, Washington State Mr Leather.

“In the Pride Flag the colour red symbolizes LIFE. Let us all wear a red armband on our left arm to celebrate the lives of those brave members of the LGBT community whom we have lost and remember how much we have to be thankful for in the freedoms in life we have today.”

Now in its 40th year, the Seattle Pride Parade will begin at Fourth Avenue and Union Street at 11 am on Sunday 29 June 2014. It will take about 2.5 hours, ending at Second Avenue and Denny Way near Seattle Center.
