China: Hotel in Shanghai Refurbishes Fitness Centre

As most hotels are launching ever more sumptuous spas, a hotel in Shanghai refurbishes its fitness centre with state of the art equipment, a new system for training the core, and a full schedule of aerobics classes.

Fitness centre are increasingly seen as an expense that doesn't bring in much revenue, whereas spas are seen as cash cows that can enhance a hotel's bottom line.

So it is a good sign that Le Royal Méridien Shanghai has splashed out on its fitness centre, adding new equipment and other enhancements to imporove the fitness experience of hotel guests.

Fitness club memberships are also on offer.

“People today are focused on healthy living and the hotel has seen a continuous growth in the use of the Fitness Center”, says Daniel Aylmer, the General Manager of the hotel.

“These upgrades will further fulfill the needs of the guests.”

In addition to Technogym, Precor, and StarTrac equipment, the hotel fitness centrer has one stationary bicycle, 2 bicycles, 2 cross trainers, 4 stride machines, and 9 treadmills.

Each cardio machine is connected to a television monitor with free Internet and television.

There is also the newly introduced ARKE System, which focuses on training the core and coordination.

With 12 experience, Mitch Pan has been appointed private coach. Tai chi, yoga, spinning, and aqua aerobics are also offered.
