On his 2nd full day in Seattle, Michael Taylor’s nephew, Erik, takes him to the culturally diverse neighborhood of Capitol Hill, where stately homes sit cheek and jowl with clothing boutiques, trendy restaurants, and gay bars.
Capitol Hill is described by Visit Seattle as “a neighborhood that doesn’t fit easy stereotypes”. It is “part hip and urban, part wooded and stately, it is a community that often feels like a small town in itself …”
Chock full of stately Victorian and Craftsmen style homes, Capitol Hill also has scores of trendy restaurants and avant-garde theaters.
In addition to artists, foodies, and creative types, Capitol Hill is also home to large and welcoming gay and lesbian community, which started to settle in the district in the 1960s.
According to Erik, there are at least 10 gay and lesbian friendly bars, pubs, and nightclubs in the neighborhood.
During my 9 night stay in Seattle, Capitol Hill played host to the 6th annual Capital Hill Pride Festival, which took place on Saturday 28 June 2014.
There were 5 blocks of food, fun, and entertainment – and lots and lots of PRIDE!
