Thailand: King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament Raises Money for Charity


The 2014 King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament is held in Bangkok for the first time. The 5 day event begins with a colourful parade followed by matches, ceremonies, a fashion show, gala dinners, and mini concerts.

Anantara Hotels, Resorts, and Spas upset Bangkok Bank in the opening day of play in the 2014 King’s Cup Polo Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, with a score of 6 to 4.

Sara Story Design beat Citibank by a score of l10 to 8. The Peninsula beat Mercedes Benz by a score of  9 to 7, and Audemars Piguet beat Louis Roederer Hong Kong by a score of 12 – 7.

The proceedings began early in the morning with a traditional ceremony overseen by monks who placed sacred garlands over the necks of the 50 elephants and then blessed them with a trickle of scented water. 

More than US$750,000 has been raised by the King’s Cup Elephant Tournament so far. Proceeds go to charities throughout Thailand.
