The skies over Nam Van Lakes on the Outer Harbour explode in colour as the 26th annual Macau International Fireworks Display Contest gets underway on Monday 8 September 2014.
The first night of the 26th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival on Monday 8 September 2014.
Shortly after 9 pm, the skies over Nam Vam Lakes along Macau’s Outer Harbour exploded in a riot of coloured rockets choreographed by Syyuan Fireworks of Taiwan.
A show by the night’s 2nd participant, Mirnovec Pirotehnika of Croaita, has been postponed until 20 September because the shipment didn’t arrive in time.
The contest will continue on Saturday 13 September with a show by Hunan Jingtai Fireworks of China.
That night’s 2nd show, by Sodip Pyrotechnie of France, also had to be postponed. It will take place on 27 September.
Teams from 10 Countries
The fireworks contest will continue with 2 displays each Saturday night through the end of September.
The fireworks contest concludes on Chinese National Day on 1 October with shows by entrants from Italy and Spain.
Teams from 10 countries are taking part in the 2014 fireworks competition: Australia, China, Croatia, France, Italy, Korea, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Taiwan.
Two performances are scheduled each night. The 1st performance begins at 9 pm, the 2nd at 9.40 pm. Each performance lasts 16 to 20 minutes.
