Britain: Raiderettes Steal the Show as 600,000 NFL Fans Jam London’s Regent Street

American Football

Football’s Fabulous Females, a.k.a. the Raiderettes, steal the show as 600,000 football fans clog London’s iconic Regent Street. Recovering from a hangover, our OFFICIAL correspondent attends the fair and shares his pix.

Now in its 2nd year, NFL on Regent Street – home to some of London’s most iconic architecture and finest shops – was held on Saturday 27 September 2014 on the eve of the matchup between the Oakland Raiders and the Miami Dolphins.

Live music, DJs, team zones, team mascots, football players, and calorific American fare were among the many attractions.

But among the afternoon’s key highlights was surely an enthusiastic performance by the Raiderettes, a.k.a. Football’s Fabulous Females, who showed the gathering how to get down, Oaktown style.

For reasons unknown, the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders failed to make an appearance. Afraid of being upstaged, perhaps?

Raider Nation Odyssey

Marcus Marsden is the OFFICIAL London correspondent for the Accidental Travel Writer representing the Raider Nation in Britain. He attends the party and shares his thoughts.

“Another wonderful day in my ‘Raider Nation in England’ odyssey! Saturday saw the return of the NFL on Regent Street bash.

“It is a huge event, that closes the whole of Regent St for a whole Saturday afternoon. Regent St is just off Oxford Street and is one of London’s busiest shopping areas.

“Last year there were 500,000 people in attendance, and I’m sure this year was bigger!”

Up Close and Personal

One of the key highlights of the day for Marcus was surely getting to meet Mark Davis, son of Al Davis and current owner of the Oakland Raiders.

“The whole event was one big street party with NFL challenges and player appearances, etc. We even had the Raiderettes on show!

“I was lucky enough to meet Mr Mark Davis and also get a photo with the Raiders 3 Lombardi trophies!”

Awesome and Surrealistic

Another one of the highlights for Marcus was surely a chance to get up close and personal with those 3 coveted Super Bowl trophies!

“For someone like myself, living in Singapore, it is awesome (and a bit surreal) to see so many people walking around in NFL gear!

“There were fans of every team mingling peacefully together and proudly displaying their colours. I met people from all over Europe as well as from the USA and the UK. The NFL is truly global now.

“There were many Dolphin fans in evidence, and so tomorrow at Wembley there is going to be a massive atmosphere!”

Marcus Marsden of Singapore has been appointed as the OFFICIAL London correspondent for the Accidental Travel Writer to represent the Raider Nation in in Britain.
