Michael Taylor crosses the border and hops a train to Guangzhou to check out the newest hotel in the rapidly expanding network of Aloft Hotels, which are targeted the next generaton of travellers.

Aloft Guangzhou University Park is a 4 star hotel located within Guagnzhou University Park, a sprawling complex of universities and cultural venues.

The hotel has 272 guest rooms with 10.5 foot high ceilings, 42 inch LCD TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, and coffee makers.

The rooms are neat and tidy, and most rooms have river views.

The hotel is pet friendly, but make sure to bring your own dog food. Feeders and baskets are available.

You can play pool at the Re-mix lounge, down cocktails at the W xyz bar, grab light meals to go at fuel by Aloft, eat as much as you want at The Nook, or savour Cantonese fusion cuisine at the Yunshan Poetry Chinese Restaurant.

The hotel has a gym with universal style exercise equipment, dumbbells, and a couple of cardiovascular machines. There is also an indoor swimming pool, which would be perfect for doing laps. The hotel has a fleet of bicycles including bicycles built for 2.

There are 3 meeting rooms but no spa.

A well-stocked mini mart is located a short walk from the hotel. It is open until 2 am.

The hotel is located in the heart of Guangzhou University Park, home to several institutions of higher learning. It is a short walk to the Ling Nan Impression Park.

The hotel is a 10 minute drive from the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Centre and a 50 minute drive from Guangzhou Baiyun Internaitonal Airport.
