Hotels and resorts in Macau host gala events and countdown parties every year on New Year's Eve, and the government stages a spectacular fireworks display over Nam Van Lakes.
Grand Hyatt Macau is one of many hotels and resorts in Macau that will host lavish countdown parties on New Year's Eve.
The Grand Hyatt's party will be held in its soaring lobby. There will be guest DJs and dancing into the wee hours as well as a complimentary glass of champagne at midnight.
Highlights of the evening will include 30 live drummers beating out the countdown plus 20,000 red balloons, which will cascade from the evening at midnight. Entrance costs 300 patacas and is complimentary to hotel guests.
The Lion's Bar at MGM Macau will host one of the hottest countdown parties in town. DJ Ted will spin the discs, and South Republic Band will play live music. Entrance: 350 patacas, including 2 standard drinks.
KC and the Sunshine Band
Not to be outdone, The Venetian Macao will host one of the biggest parties in town. Its New Year's Eve Gala, whose headline act will be KC and the Sunshine Band, will perform such signature hits as Boogie Shoes and That's the Way (I Like It).
The Black Tie event includes dinner. Tickets sell for 1,000 patacas.
Restaurants, bars, and nightclubs throughout the city will also be staging parties to suit all tastes and budgets.
Free New Year's Eve Events
And just to prove that some of the best things in life are free, the skies over Nam Van Lakes will explode in a cacaphony of rockets at 12 midnight. The pyrotechnics display can be viewed from various vantage points throughout the city.

Winter in Venice New Year's Eve Countdown will include live music, an LED drum show, a dazzling 3-D countdown, and a fireworks display at midnight (8.30 pm – 12.30 am, outside the Venetian Macao, Cotai);
- The 2014 Macau Countdown Concert will star Hong Kong Canto-pop stars Andy Hui and Fiona Sit (10:00 pm, Sai Van Lake Square, Macau);
- The Taipa Countdown Show will star Hong Kong Canto-pop star Elisa Chan (9:30 pm, Taipa Houses-Museum, Taipa);
- The 2014 Three Lamps District Countdown Show will have stage performances, street food, and games booths (8:00 pm, Rotunda de Carlos da Maia and Rua da Restauração, Macau).
