Travelogue: Hotel Review of ibis Styles Kyoto Station

Japan Press Trip Part 2

Located across the street from Kyoto Station, ibis Styles Kyoto Station offers comfort and convenience for budget minded travellers as well as a yummy breakfast buffet, with both domestic and international dishes.

Located across the street from Kyoto Station, ibis Styles Kyoto Station is a no-nonsense hotel catering to budget minded business and leisure travelers.

As Japan’s former capital, Kyoto is a city with a 1,200 year history. Fully 1,600 temples and 800 shrines dot the city. It is one of Japan’s most important travel destinations. Summers are hot and winters are cold.

Accommodation

The hotel has 215 rooms, and all rooms are non-smoking. There is an outdoor smoking area, which is accessible from the lobby on the 3rd floor.

I stay in a single room, which measures 11 square metres. There is a double bed. Because of the room’s small size, I put my suitcase on the bed.

The room has a convenient work space. There is a small refrigerator, which is not stocked with drinks or snacks – a plus if you ask me. I prefer to buy my own drinks and snacks at a mini mart rather than getting ripped off by the hotel’s mini bar provider.

The hotel also has twin rooms measuring 17 square metres, which are suitable for couples or families, and 14-square-metre semi doubles, which are suitable for couples.

Rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions, and other typical amenities. I have a stable Internet connections and don’t have any problems getting or staying on line during my stay.

Food and Beverage

The hotel has a restaurant serving buffet breakfasts from 6.30 to 10 am. Known as Kyoto Kitchen, it serves local dishes as well as American style breakfast selections. Eggs, however, are not cooked to order.

The Zen-like ambience is more like that of a cafeteria than a hotel coffee shop. There is one long common table and a counter with windows overlooking the street.

Other Facilities

The hotel has a coin operated laundromat, vending machines, a complimentary PC corner, and a taxi stand. A travel service independent of the hotel is located within the same building.
