Japan Press Trip Part 6
The historic neighborhood of Higashiyama-ku – one of Kyoto’s most important tourist attractions – is full of boutiques, cafes, tea houses, restaurants, and – would you believe? – a Hong Kong based coffee house.
% Arabica is a stylish coffee house located in the heart of Higashiyama-ku, one of Kyoto’s most historic and architecturally important neighborhoods.
Talk about taking coals to Newcastle! Here we are, a bunch of travel writers from Hong Kong, and the first stop on our all day tour of Kyoto is a Hong Kong based coffee house, whose only overseas outlet is in Kyoto!
But it is not as ridiculous as it sounds. The owner, apparently, is from Kyoto, but he is based in Hong Kong.
Following the success of his 3 coffee houses in the former British Crown Colony – there are 2 outlets in Discovery Bay and one in SoHo on Hong Kong Island – he decided to open one in his home town of Kyoto.
We spend the better part of an hour there imbibing coffee, tea, or cold drinks, snacking on snacks, chatting with the locals, and taking pictures.
