Netherlands: Gulf Carrier Goes Dutch with a New Link to Amsterdam

Qatar Airways goes Dutch with a new route linking its Doha hub with Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. It is the Middle Eastern airline's 34th European travel destination. Service begins 16 June 2015.

Amsterdam will become Qatar Airways 34th European travel destination on 16 June 2015.

The capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam has long been one of Europe's most popular travel destinations for tourists.

The country has fully 10 UNESCO listed World Heritage Sites. Two of them are situated in the city of Amsterdam, the 17th-century canals of Amsterdam (pictured) and the 19th and 20th century Defense Line of Amsterdam.

Other must-see tourist attractions include the Anne Frank House, the Stedelijk Musuem, the Van Gogh Musuem, the list goes on.

Any visit to Amsterdam should also include a trip into the surrounding countryside to see the windmills, the tulip fields, the fishing villages, the houses built on stilts, and the locals, who continue to wear theiir colourful traditional garb.

There is more to Amsterdam than tourism. The city is also an important travel destination for business travellers.

As an important port, the city serves as a base for 7 of the world's 500 largest companies, including Shell, Philips, and ING.

The airline will operate a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the route. The airplane seats up 254 passengers in classes. There are 22 fully-flat-bed seats in Business Class and 232 conventional seats in Economy Class.

The airline has an extensive and quickly growing network of routes spanning all continents.

Passengers flying the airline to and from Amsterdam will be able to transfer at the airline's Doha hub at Hamad International Airport to travel destinations throughout Africa, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and East Asia.

The airline maintains one of the the world’s best and largest Business Class lounges at the airport. There are 40,000 square metres commercial space with more than 70 retail and 30 food and beverage outlets.

The airport also has a full service spa with the following facilities: a swimming pool, squash courts, sauna, and steam rooms as well as express beauty salon that is open 24-hours-a-day.

Some transiting passengers actually schedule longer stopovers at the airport than necessary to enjoy the facilities than the Business Class Lounge has to offer.
