Macau: Hotel Review – Sheraton Cotai Offers Fun for the Whole Family

Hospitality

The Sheraton Cotai Macao, Cotai Central, has 3,896 rooms, making it the world’s largest hotel. With 30 DreamsWorks themed Family Suites and a DreamWorks inspired Shrekfast, it is also perfect for families!

The Sheraton Macao Hotel, Cotai Central, is located in the heart of the Cotai Strip. As the world’s largest hotel, it offers something for everyone.

A part of the massive Cotai Central complex, the hotel has 2 casinos, direct access to the Shoppes at Cotai Central shopping mall, several food and beverage outlets, and excellent recreational facilities.

Accommodation

The hotel has 3,896 rooms spread across 2 towers. Rooms have views of either the Cotai Strip or the swimming pools.

Standard rooms measure 452 square metres. Family suites and executive suites measure 893 square metres. Deluxe suites measure 1,345 square metres. Ambassador Suites measure 1,787 square metres

Measuring 2,239 squre metres, 8 Presidential Suites occupy the top 8 floors of Sky Tower. They have a dining room seating up to 6 people, a pantry, a wet bar, and a separate entrance off the pantry.

I am housed in an Executive Suite with separate living and sleeping rooms. It is considerably larger than my 700 square foot flat in Hong Kong!

Food + Beverage

The hotel has 4 food and beverage outlets: Xin, Bene, Feast, and Palms.

Xin is a pan-Asian and seafood restaurant. It serves Cantonese style dim sum at lunch and mouth-watering hot pots at lunch and dinner. Barbecued meats are also featured.

Bene is an Itatian style trattoria. It serves pasta, pizza, risotti, cold cuts and cheeses, and grilled meats. It has an extensive wine list. It is open for lunch and dinner.

Feast is an all-day buffet restaurant serving dishes from around the world, with an emphasis on Asian, Macanese, and Portuguese cuisine. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Located in the lobby, Palms serves light fare, afternoon tea, and all kinds of beverages. The Lychee Martinis, Sake Mojitos, and Ginger Margaritas are highly recommended.

Two poolside cafes and a poolside lounge serve Macanese snacks and refreshing beverages.

Facilities

The hotel has a luxurious spa with 15 treatment rooms including 5 for couples. There is a hair salon, a beauty zone for manicures and pedicures, saunas, and steam rooms.

The hotel has a well-equipped fitness centre with an aerobics room, cardio machines, machine weights, free weights, and Kinesis equipment. Access is complimentary for hotel guests.

There are 3 outdoor swimming pools, one used exclusively for events. Set amid tropical landscaping, each one has private cabanas with ceiling fans and day beds.

Location, Location, Location

The hotel is located on the Cotai Strip on a stretch of landfill linking the islands of Taipa and Coloane.

The hotel is apart of the massive Cotai Sands complex, which currently includes 2 other hotels: The Holiday Inn Macao, Cotai Central, and the Conrad Macao, Cotai Central. A 4th hotel, the St. Regis, will open its doors in mid-December.

The complex also includes the Shoppes at Cotai Central with 100 shops, about 20 food and beverage outlets, and casinos. The Venetian Macao and the Four Seasons Hotel Macao, Cotai Strip, are located across the street.

Unique Selling Proposition

If this hotel has a unique selling proposition it would have to be its family friendly nature.

There are 30 Family Suites measuring 893 square metres. Children have their own DreamWork’s themed room complete with bunk beds and a play area equipped with Nintendo Wii.

A ShrekFast buffet breatkfast is served in the morning, giving kids and their parents a chance get up close and personal with Shrek, Alex the lion and his penguin friends from Madagascar, and accident prone Po from Kung Fu Panda.

Every afternoon there is a DreamWorks All Star Parade through the Shoppes at Cotai Central.

The hotel also organizes special activities for children. When I was there, a Kung Fu Panda Academy was being held, and the kids (and their parents) really seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Baby-sitting services are offered for children 3 and older.
