The streets of New Orleans were awash with Silver and Black as the Raider Nation arrives in force to root for the Oakland Raiders as they took on the New Orleans Saints in the NFL 2016 season opener at Superdome.

This post was originally published in September 2016.

When the New Orleans Saints went marching into the Superdome on Sunday 11 September 2016, plenty of Oakland Raiders fans wanted to be in that number.

First, the Oakland Raiders have an international following, and Oakland Raider fans are known for driving and flying in from around the Raider Nation to root for their football team at home in the Black Hole as well as in rival NFL stadiums.

Secondly, New Orleans is America’s unrivaled party town.

It’s no coincidence that fully seven Super Bowls have been played in the Crescent City.

The Big Easy also plays host to the Sugar Bowl, the New Orleans Bowl, and countless other major sporting events.

Third, the Superdome, a.k.a. Mercedes-Benz  Superdome, is located near the heart of the Central Business District.

The Superdome is surrounded by dozens of hotels and motels, which are not only within walking distance of the stadium.

These hostelries are also within a short walk of the French Quarter, the city’s oldest and most interesting neighbourhood.

Think Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, Dixieland Jazz, and Creole Cuisine.

Raider fans started arriving in New Orleans earlier in the week. They have been marching up and down Bourbon Street, filling the bars and clubs, downing Hurricanes, and partying into the wee hours.

Will the Crescent City ever be the same?

A big thank you to Santiago Yvonne Cano Escobar for sharing these great photos!!!
