Go Island Hopping – The waters off Coron are dotted with islands large and small. With its white sand beaches, Malcapuya Island is considered by many to be the best. Others include Banana Island, Bulog Island, Cheron Island, and Dumunpalit Island.
Go Snorkeling – Coron Bay is full of fascinating spots to snorkel. The Twin Lagoon – with its mixture of fresh and salt water – is one of the most popular. Others include the Coral Garden, Siete Pecados (Spanish for seven islands), and Skeleton Reef. Beware the jellyfish!
Go Scuba-diving – Coron Bay is chock-a-block with scuba diving sites. Among the most fascinating are the wrecks of the Japanese supply fleet, which came under attack from the U.S. military on 24 September 1944.
Go Swimming – From white sand beaches to tranquil lakes to hotel swimming pools, Coron has lots of good spots to go swimming, and one of the best is Kayangan Lake, which is reputedly the cleanest lake in Palawan. Getting there is quite a hike, however, and there are no changing facilities or lifeguards.
Take a Hike – It’s 721 steep steps to the top of Mount Tapyas, which is crowned by a giant cross. But the view of the town, the bay, and the surrounding islands is ample reward for the strenuous effort.
Work on Your Tan – Coron has some spectacular white sand beaches. Best of all, they are mostly unspoiled and uncrowded. Most can only be reached by boat. Top picks: Banol Beach, Smith Beach, Atwayan Beach, Malwayuyo Beach, and Kalitang Beach. Don’t expect food kiosks! Make sure to pack a picnic lunch and bring plenty of fluids.
Go Kayaking – Rent a kayak or a canoe and explore Coron Bay, the “Mother of Limestone Mountains”.
Go Shopping – You can’t go home with a souvenir!Pick up local handicrafts, garments, and snacks at the shops that line Coron’s main street.
Soak Your Tired Feet – After a long day of eco-tourism, soak your tired feet in the 38 to 40 degree Celsius waters of the Maquit Hot Spring. Better yet, go all the way in. The best time is at twilight. But beware: there are no showers, and the not overly clean toilets serve as changing rooms.
