Hotel Review: The Funny Lion Inn in Palawan

Festive Philippines

The Funny Lion Inn is a charming boutique hotel sitting at the heart of one of the most important centres of eco-tourism in the Philippines. It has an excellent restaurant, an infinity swimming pool, and a jacuzzi.

The Funny Lion is a charming boutique hotel located on the outskirts of Coron, the largest township on the island of Busuanga in Northern Palawan in the Philippines.

The hotel overlooks a tranquil cove with mangroves and kayak trails. It serves as a convenient launchpad for the various kinds of eco-tourism options that visitors to the island can experience.

There are catamaran tours of quiet lagoons, coral reefs, secluded islands, and quiet beaches. Snorkling, scuba diving, fishing, kayaking, picknicking, and trekking are among the many activities on offer.

One of the region’s most spectacular scuba-diving venues is Coron Bay, where several Japanese warships were sunk by the U.S. millitary on 24 September 1944.

Scuba-diving tours of the site can be arranged.

Open plan bathrooms feature a platform, which makes it easy to spread out your luggage.

The Funny Lion has a total of 31 rooms, which feature pale beige walls with dark wood furniture.

There is a work station. All rooms have Wi-Fi, but the Internet connection was not stable during my stay.

There is an open plan bathroom, with a sink, counter, and platform, which makes it easy to spread out your suitcases and other personal belongings.

The toilet and shower are in an enclosed space separate from the sink and counter, which to me is a more efficient use of space if two people are sharing the room.

There are 15 Cub Rooms, which measure 20 square metres and have two twin beds; and eight King Rooms, which measure 25 square metres and have two twin beds.

Eight Pride Rooms are corner units. Measuring 25 square metres, they have a king size bed and a pull-out bed.

Pride rooms also have a veranda or lanai.

The Funny Lion Inn has one food and beverage outlet, Hunt Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

There is a nightly cocktail hour at sunset and a grill buffet dinner every Saturday night.

Buffet breakfasts with eggs cooked to order are included in the room price. A la carte menus are served at lunch and dinner.

The eatery has indoor seating and outdoor seating. Outdoor tables overlook the hotel’s infinity swimming pool.

The hotel is a 30 minute drive from Busauanga Airport, a.k.a. Coron Airport.

There are multiple direct flights to Manila each day on Cebu Pacific Air, Philippine Airlines, and SkyJet Airlines.

Air Juan offers flights to Boracay two times a week on nine-seat aircraft. Because they fly at just over 9,000 feet, they offer breathtaking views of the seascape below.

I signed up for the Northern Palawan Eco Adventure tour along with eight other bloggers from around the word.

Arrangements were made by the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board and Intas Destinations Management.

We were flown from Manila to Coron by Cebu Pacific Air. See: Manila to Cebu flight review>.

On the first day of our one night stay at the Funny Lion Lodge in Coron, we took a tour of the town. See:  Coron Town Tour>>.
