Amazing Thailand

AccorHotels has refurbished and rebranded a historic hostelry in Central Bangkok as a trendy ibis Styles hotel. Given a complete facelift, the former Viengtai Hotel has been renamed ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai.

The ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai is located one block from Khaosan Road, which cuts through the heart of Central Bangkok’s Old Town.

Khaosan Road has long been home to guest houses and other types of inexpensive accommodation catering to backpackers and other budget-minded travelers.

Sometimes thought of a backpacker’s ghetto, Khaosan Road is home to countless shops selling souvenirs, T-shirts, cheap clothes, counterfeit DVDs – the list goes on.

It is also possible to get fake IDs, diplomas, drivers’ licenses, travel documents, and similar items made in the neighborhood. Travel agents can arrange inexpensive visa runs to neighboring countries.

At night the streets morph into a sort of street carnival with music blasting from loud speakers and hawkers selling exotic snacks. Barbecued insects, anyone?

The original Viengtai Hotel opened its doors in 1953 and was the first hotel in the Banglampu-Khaosan area.

With three stars, the ibis Styles is the first international grade hotel to open in the district. It has been given a complete makeover, with a colourful, avant-garde interior design.

A complimentary buffet breakfast and broadband Internet access are included in the price of a room.

Ibis Styles is a member of the Accor Hotels group, one of more than 20 hotel brands with more than 4,100 hotels and resorts scattered around the world.

Ibis Styles is positioned as an economy brand with roughly 370 properties in 36 countries.

Accommodation

The hotel has 215 contemporary guest rooms. Standard rooms have one king size bed and can accommodate up to two adults and one child.

Rooms are furnished with the Sweet BedTM concept by ibis, which “aligns density points of the body with plumped fluffy pillows and super-comfy duvet for a restful night's sleep,” a press release issued by AccorHotels explains.

Amenities include a mini refrigerator, a 43-inch LED TV, and tea and coffee making facilities.

Food + Beverage

The hotel has three food and beverage outlets, and breakfast is served throughout the day.

  • Streats Café – located on the ground floor, Streats Café is an all-day dining restaurant. It has a large outdoor terrace and has direct access to the street. It serves a menu of international and local dishes.
  • Streats Bakery – sells French pastries fresh out of the oven.
  • Streats Bar serves meat skewers and a la carte dishes as well as signature cocktails and house-pours.

Facilities

The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool with a colourful rainbow feature running down its length. The perfect spot to do laps?

The pool is set within an interior courtyard with lounge chairs and umbrellas.

Other hotel facilities include a kid’s club, bike rentals, and  two meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 200 guests.

Location, Location, Location

Khaosan has long been popular with budget-minded travelers. It has some of the best bars, clubs, and inexpensive restaurants in Bangkok.

The district is also home to some of Bangkok’s most important tourist attractions, including the Grand Palace, the National Museum, and the Emerald Buddha.

Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport is 34.89 kilometres, or 21.68 miles, from the hotel.
