Eggs Benedict at Sea Restaurant, Hotel Baraquda MGallery by Sofitel

Eggs Benedict is the signature breakfast dish at Sea Restaurant, the all-day dining restaurant at Hotel Baraquda,  M Gallery by Sofitel, in Pattaya, Thailand. Overlooking the swimming pool, the eatery features a contemporary vibe with colourful Chinese influences.

Eggs Benedict is a popular dish traditionally served at breakfast or lunch in the United States.Eggs Benedict is, in fact, something of a premium breakfast offering, and many chefs like to give it their own particular “spin”.

According to Wikipedia Commons, Eggs Benedict usually consists of two halves of an English muffin, which are topped with Canadian bacon, ham, or bacon, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce.

The dish was first popularized in New York City, but I’m staying at the Hotel Baraquda, M Gallery by Sofitel in Pattaya, Thailand, having breakfast with the hotel’s marketing team.

Someone suggests I order the Eggs Benedict because it is the specialty of the house so  I say, “OK!”Ham or Smoked Salmon?

When I’m asked if I want it with ham or smoked salmon, I ask which is recommended, and I’m told, “Smoked Salmon”. So I opt for the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon.I’m not just being cooperative. I ADORE smoked salmon!

If truth be told, I’m not a big fan of Eggs Benedict because when I’ve ordered in the past, I found it a bit bland. I really couldn’t understand what the big deal was.

But I’ve only tried Eggs Benedict at hotels in Asia, and Asian hotels – no matter how many stars they have – don’t always get Western food right.

My Eggs Benedict arrives …

First of all, the plating of the dish. I think the photo I took says it all: it is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

When I dig in, I discover that not only does it look gorgeous, it also tastes absolutely divine. It is anything but bland.

And I quickly discover what the chef’s secret is: he’s added a layer of grainy

Most of the hotels I stay at offer a breakfast buffet in the morning, and while most of the dishes are laid out buffet style, it is not unusual for there to be an egg station, where a chef cooks eggs to order.

But that usually means omelet, scrambled, sunny side up – stuff like that. And it not only varies from hotel to hotel, it can also depend GREATLY on who’s on duty at the same hotel.

Some of the better hotels also offer signature dishes that can be ordered a la carte to supplement what is served on the buffet tables.

At the Hotel Baraquda in Pattaya, that signature dish was Eggs Benedict. Click HERE for my review of the hotel.

The breakfast buffet is served from 6.30 to 10.30 am. A la carte and set menus are served from 6.00 am to 12.30 pm.
