The Wooloomooloo Group invited a small group of journalists, travel bloggers, and food crtics to sample its new menu, which was launched to celebrate the reopening of its premium Wooloomooloo Prime outlet.

The Tsim Sha Tsui eatery’s beautifully rethought interior was designed by renowned interior designer Hernan Zanghellini, who has had a hand in creating intetior spaces for 400 food and beverage outlets in 12 countries over the last 18 years.

The floor-to-ceiling windows afforded dramatic views of Kowloon, Victoria Harbour, and Hong Kong Island thanks to its location on the 21st floor of The One, a high-rise commercial building situated on Nathan Road.

New Menu

Featured dishes on the new menu include Aberdeen Angus beef that has been dry-aged for 45 days to Stockyard’s finest wagyu beef to Rhug’s Pork Rack to Barnsley Lamb Chops.

Against the backdrop of a 270-degree view of Kowloon, Victoria Harbour, and Hong Kong Island, we dined in a glass-enclosed private room.

Starting with signature cocktails, we moved on to starters, main courses witb sides, and desserts, which were washed down with fine wines from the restaurant’s extensive wine list.

As one diner put it, “I think this is one of the best meals I have ever had.”

A quick review of the tasting menu we were served follows …

Cocktails

Eden Mill Love Gin and Tonic (left) and Monkey 47 Gin and Tonic.

Starters

Pan Seared Hokkaido Sea Scallops (clockwise from top left), Salad of Smoked Trout, and Burata.

Mains

Wooloomooloo Steak topped with a homemade compound butter with 17 ingredients (clockwise from left), Beef with Australian Wagyu Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio , Grilled Rhug Estate Organic Pork, and Pan Seared New Zealand King Salmon.

Sides

Mashed Potatoes with Jalepeno Peppers (left) and Truffles.

Desserts

Baked Cheesecake (left) and Pavlova.

The Verdict …

This was a well-paced meal in elegant surroundings with stunning views. The number of invitees was perfect, encouraging table-wide conversation among the hosts and the invited guests.

I can’t think of anything I didn’t like, but if I had to name a couple of standout dishes it would have to be the Pan Seared Hokkaido Scallops, the Wooloomooloo Steak topped with compound butter, and the Mashed Potatoes with Jalepeno Peppers.

OMG! The mashed potatoes were rich and velety with just a subtle hit of spice. I would love to get the recipe, as I would love to try making this dish at home.
