Big Fish is one of five food and beverage outlets at the Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach. The eatery serves an international menu at lunch and dinner, specializing in seafood and steaks. The dining area overlooks the Andaman Sea.
Big Fish is the signature restaurant at the Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, the most sumptuous resort hotel in this part of the popular Southern Thai island.
Surely one of the best restaurants in Phuket, the sophisticated eatery is one of five food and beverage outlets at the hotel.
Other outlets include an all-day dining restaurant that serves sumptuous buffets at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a bar serving beverages and Italian fare, a lobby lounge serving beverages and burgers, sandwiches, and cakes, and a poolside venue serving beverages and as well as local dishes and Western favourites.
Open for lunch and dinner, the restaurant serves an international menu focusing on seafood sourced from local fishermen and the finest steaks imported from Australia.
I had dinner at the stylish restaurant on the second night of my two-night hosted stay at the Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa Nai Yang Beach.
Pumpkin Soup – For my first course, I ordered Pumpkin Soup, a cream soup consisting of pumpkin, pistachio, and sea prawns.
Australian Wagyu Beef Tenderloin – For my main course, I ordered Australian Wagyu Beef Tenderloin.
It was served with a choice of peppercorn sauce, barbecue barbecue sauce, Northeastern Thai style chili dip, red wine sauce, or Bearnaise sauce and a variety of side dishes.
I asked for my steak to be cooked rare and served with red wine sauce and truffle mashed potatoes.
Mango Sticky Rice – I was already full, but I couldn’t help ordering a Thai dessert! They are so totally different from Western desserts, I simply couldn’t resist ordering one. It was served with coconut ice cream.
Pinot Noir – My mouth-watering dinner was washed down with a glass of Marlborough Pinot Noir 2016 by Brandcott Estate, New Zealand.
The Ambiance …
A fine-dining restaurant, Big Fish has both indoor and outside seating, and the views at sunset are breathtaking.
The Verdict …
The pumpkin soup was rich and velvety. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the red wine sauce and truffle mashed potatoes were the perfect complements to it.
I asked the maitre d’ to suggest a wine to accompany my steak, and he suggested a glass of Marlborough Pinot Noir 2016 by Brandcott Estate, New Zealand.
It was a match made in heaven.
The dessert was sweet indulgence. It might not be traditional, but I love pairing Thai desserts with Italian espresso.
I ordered a double espresso to wash down my mango sticky rice, and it was a wise decision.
I absolutely loved the food, the surroundings were very sophisticated, and the service was impeccable!
I give this restaurant two enthusiastic thumb’s up!
