Thailand Hotel Review: Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach

Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, is a five-star resort hotel located on Nai Yang Beach on the Southern Thai island of Phuket. Opened in June 2016, the hotel has a wide range of facilities and several  food and beverage outlets serving mouth-watering cuisine.

Where to Stay in Phuket

Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, is located along the sands of a quiet stretch of beach on Phuket’s northwestern coast.

The hotel has several food and beverage outlets, a massive swimming pool, a sumptuous spa, a fitness centre, and a kid’s club.

While the hotel is located in a secluded location offering considerable privacy, Kata Beach and Patong Beach are just a short drive away.

The hotel won several awards at the Asia Pacific Awards: Thailand’s Best Interior Design Hotel, Thailand’s Best Wedding Venue, and Asia’s Best Wedding Venue.

There is a stunning wooden carving at the hotel’s entrance and a circular pool with metal figurines of the hotel’s mascot, the red-whiskered bulbul – the perfect spot to take selfies!

The hotel’s lobby is located atop the hill, affording magnificent views of the hotel, its swimming pool, and the azure seas beyond.

The lobby has a turquoise and beige colour scheme, a vaulted cathedral ceiling, and teak flooring. Wire and paper lanterns are suspended from the ceiling.

Native to Phuket and other parts of Southeast Asia, the Red-whiskered Bulbul has bright red cheeks, which give the species its name.

Once capturing the hearts of royalty, the bird is prized by the people Phuket because of its beautiful plumage and its melodious call.

Images of the regal bird have been incorporated into design elements all around the resort.

Accommodation

The Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach has 135 rooms and 45 suites across three floors as well as 16 beachfront villas.

The hotel has nine types of rooms, suites, and villas. Rooms and suites all have balconies, some have direct access to the main swimming pool.

Villas have either one bedroom or two bedrooms and either a plunge pool or a private swimming pool. All villas have terraces, private gardens, and direct access to the beach.

I was lucky enough to be housed for two wonderful nights in a sumptuous private villa.

Thank you, Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, for hosting me for two memorable nights!

I was hosted for two nights in Villa Six, a Beachfront Pool Villa with a plunge pool, a private terrace, an outdoor living space, a leafy garden, and direct access to a private stretch of Nai Yang beach.

The indoor spaces of my spacious villa included a large living area, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom.

The living area had a king-size bed,  a padded bench at the foot of the bed, and a dining area.

I set up an impromptu office on the dining room table. There was also a mini-bar stocked with beer, bottled water, fruit juice, and soda.

The marble-clad bathroom had two vanities, a large oval bathtub, a walk-in shower, and a very spacious walk-in closet.

A nice touch was the elephant folded from towels with a personal greeting, which was placed on the bed awaiting my arrival.

The Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, overlooks a white sand beach, which offers exclusivity and privacy.

Hotel guests are not plagued by pushy masseuses or masseurs offering foot massages, and there are no ambulant salesmen peddling T-shirts or shifts.

The sea is quite shallow, however, and is not really appropriate for swimming – at least during my stay.

Better to swim in the hotel’s magnificent Loop Swimming Pool!

The Facilities …

The Unique Selling Proposition …

If the hotel has a unique selling proposition, (USP), it would have to be the spectacular loop swimming pool.

The Loop Swimming Pool, as it is called, features an oblong section spanned by two bridges.

At either end, the pool branches off with canals winding their ways in different directions.

As an avid swimmer, I like doing laps when I stay at posh hotels, but few offer such a stimulating route.

After completing one circuit, I was delighted to discover that it had taken me 30 minutes!

After the second circuit, I had been swimming for one full hour – completing my cardio-vascular exercise for the day in the most enjoyable of methods!

Cooking Lesson

Here I am posing with the chef and waitresses at The Andaman Kitchen at the Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, in Phuket, Thailand. Photo Credit: Accidental Travel Writer.

While at the hotel, I took a cooking lesson, learning how to prepare two mouth-watering – but easy to prepare – traditional Phuket dishes.

Please try these at home!
