Mikuni Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar is a stylish eatery in the heart the Veranda shopping mall in Concord, California. It serves mouth-watering sushi and other Japanese dishes in stylish surroundings with professional service.
70 Days Across America
Mikuni Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar is a restaurant chain with outlets in nine communities in Northern California.
I dined at the outlet in Concord, California, while spending a total of four nights in the city. A two-night stay at the Hilton Concord was arranged by Visit Concord. I liked the city so much, I decided to spend two more nights at the hotel.
Mikumi serves a mouth-watering array of niguri, sashimi, specialty hand rolls, maki sushi rolls, non-raw sushi rolls, veggie rolls, salads, greens, and small plates.
There are also noodles in soup, donburi, party plates, and sides.
The restaurant has lunch, happy hour, and main menus as well kids, lite, and to-go menus.
A dining companion and I had a late lunch at the restaurant while we explored The Veranda, a stylish shopping mall that opened last year.
The Non-Raw Sushi …
The restaurant serves several non-raw sushi rolls.
Since my dining companion doesn’t like raw fish, we ordered a California Two Roll (US$8.50), which consisted of two California rolls with imitation crab meet, avocado, and sesame seeds.
The Plates from the Kitchen …
The restaurant serves plates from the kitchen, which include beef, chicken, pork, and tuna dishes cooked in a variety of methods.
My dining companion and I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki (US$14.95), which consisted of grilled chicken topped with a sweet teriyaki sauce and accompanied by a green salad.
The Daily Specials …
The restaurant serves daily specials, which were highly recommended by our friendly server.
We tried the Saving Nemo Roll (US$8.95), a roll of sushi consisting of avocado, cucumber, and inari tofu and topped with salsa, ponzu teriyaki sauce, and micro greens.
The Ambiance …
Diners have a choice of three dining areas. Most of the diners eating at the restaurant during our visit were seated in the main dining room.
Diners can also sit at the cocktail bar. We sat at a table near the cocktail bar because it was less crowded and the lighting was better for taking pictures.
There is also seating in front of the sushi bar, where diners can watch the sushi chefs practising their craft.
The Verdict …
The venue was stylish, with three distinct dining areas: the dining room, the cocktail bar, and the sushi bar.
The service was friendly and professional. Our server was knowledgeable and helped us navigate the menu.
This restaurant was quite obviously VERY popular with locals. We arrived late afternoon (after lunch and before dinner).
By the time we left, the restaurant was full of boisterous diners.
I’ll give this Mikuni Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar an enthusiastic two thumbs up!
