Disney Explorers Lodge is one of the three hotels located closest to Hong Kong Disneyland on Landau Island. It has three food and beverage outlets, a large swimming pool, four themed gardens, and a spa. Free shuttles run frequently to the Disney theme park.
Where to Stay at Hong Kong Disneyland
Disney Explorers Lodge is the newest themed hotel to open near Hong Kong Disneyland, and it is also the largest.
The hotel has four wings, each with a different exotic them: Africa, Asia, Oceania, and South America.
The themes are carried out in four themed gardens as well as in the interior public spaces and the hotel rooms.
I spent one night at the hotel as part of a Press Trip sponsored by Hong Kong Disneyland Resorts.

My Room …
The largest of the three hotels at Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney Explorers Lodge has 750 rooms.
There are four room types, running from standard to deluxe, premium, and sea view.
I stayed in room 6235, which had two double beds, a work station, and ample closet space. My room had a garden view.
- The bathroom was more contemporary in design than the other two hotels. The vanity was open to the main room, whereas the toilet and walk-in shower had a door for privacy.

The Grounds …
As with the other two themed hotels at Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney Explorers Lodge has spacious grounds with sweeping views of the South China Sea and the islands that dot it.
What sets the hotel apart from the other two Disney hotels are the four gardens, each with a different theme.
The Asian Garden is pictured above. The other gardens have African, Oceanic, and South American themes.
The Swimming Pool …
Disney Explorers Lodge has a large outdoor swimming pool, and I was lucky enough to have enough free time on the final day of my press trip to make use of it.
While it is essentially a recreational pool, I had no problem doing laps because there were plenty of stretches wide enough to do laps without annoying other swimmers.
The Location …
Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is located on the waterfront of Lantau Island. The hotel is a 10 to 15 minutes’ drive from Hong Kong International Airport.
The hotel can be also be reached by public transport, including the MTR, bus, or taxi.
If you are coming by MTR, you should change from the Tung Chung line to the Disneyland Resort line at the Sunny Bay MTR station.
If you are coming from the airport by taxi, make sure to take a Lantau taxi, which will be blue.
If you are coming from the urban areas, you can take a red taxi. If you are coming from the New Territories, you should take a green taxi.
The Verdict …
I stayed at two of the hotels and got a tour of all three of them. I would have to say that I liked Disney Explorers Lodge best.
The rooms were the most spacious and the most contemporary, and – comparing room costs – they seemed to represent the best value.
Budget minded travelers might prefer Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, and those wanting suites or access to an executive lounge might prefer to splash out on the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
MICE Showcase Media Tour
I was part of a MICE Showcase Media Tour, which was organized to familiarize journalists with the world-class facilities that Hong Kong Disneyland has to offer organizers of meetings, incentives, conferences, and events (MICE) as well as wedding planners.
Both the Hong Kong Disneyland theme park and the three Walt Disney Hotels located nearby were included in the tour.
Our group comprised journalists, food critics, and travel bloggers from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
We spent a total of three days and two nights at the Hong Kong Disney resort, including one night at Disney Explorers Lodge. We also had one meal and one snack at the hotel’s food and beverage outlets.

A complimentary shuttle bus operates frequently to and from Hong Kong Disneyland, the other two Hong Kong Disneyland hotels, and the Sunny Bay Resort Line of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR).
In addition to the newly opened Disney Explorers Lodge, two other Disney hotels are located near the Disney theme park on Hong Kong Island: the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel.
