Travelodge Hotels Asia has opened its first hotel in Korea, the Travelodge Dongdaemun in Seoul, South Korea, the nation’s capital. The hotel is the hotel group’s eighth property in Asia. It already has hotels in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Centrally located in downtown Seoul, Travelodge Dongdaemun has 242 hotel rooms, three food and beverage outlets, and complimentary wi-fi. The 21-storey hotel caters to both leisure and business travelers.
Centrally located in Seoul’s popular Jung district, the Travelodge Dongdaemun is the first of several hotels scheduled to open in the South Korean capital in the coming 12 to 18 months.
Other properties will be located in the Seoul’s Myeongdong, Namdaemun, Hongdae, Itaewon, and Insadong districts.
“Our entry into Seoul, a key gateway city in Asia, is testament to the successful growth trajectory of the Travelodge brand in the region,” says Marcus Aw, Managing Director of Travelodge Hotels (Asia) Pte Ltd.
“We have opened eight hotels across five countries as we aim to service the growing needs of our #TravelTrailblazers, who are traveling around the region more frequently and looking for the Travelodge brand to accompany them on their adventures.”
Each one of the properties in Seoul will offer a distinct personality while maintaining the same high standards.
“We aim to give guests a unique product but consistent experience across our portfolio, which means the same feel but with a somewhat different look to pay homage to the local culture of each city and neighbourhood that our hotels are located in,” Aw says.
“We have been working on our South Korea expansion strategy for over two years now and it is wonderful to see the efforts of the team bear fruit.”
Travelodge entered the Asian market two years ago. It currently has two hotels in Hong Kong (one on each side of the harbour), two hotels in Thailand (one in Bangkok and another in Pattaya), two hotels in Malaysia (both in Kuala Lumpur), and one hotel in Indonesia.
The Food + Beverage Outlets …
For travelers in a hurry, there is a Travelodge Grab n’Go outlet (pictured above) in the hotel lobby offering a quick and easy breakfast, which can be eaten on site or taken away.
The Lodge, the hotel’s all-day dining outlet, serves sit-down breakfasts between 7 am and 10 am as well as other meals throughout the day.
The hotel also features a rooftop garden (pictured above), where hotel guests can kick back in the evening and enjoy snacks and beverages ordered from the hotel’s all-day dining outlet, which offers breathtaking views of Dongdaemun on one side and Seoul Tower on the other.
The Hotel Rooms …
The hotel has 242 hotel rooms, which are designed for single travelers, couples, families with children, and business travelers.
The rooms are decorated in a contemporary red, gray, and white colour scheme with strong graphics and blond wooden cabinetry.
Rooms have open closets, work stations, and wall-mounted televisions.
All rooms at the hotel have city views.
Bathrooms have vanities, wall-mounted hair driers, and walk-in showers.
Standard rooms (pictured above) measure 14 square metres. With one single or one queen size bed, they can accommodate up to two people.
Superior rooms (pictured above), also measure 14 square metres. With a queen size bed, they can accommodate up to two people.
Deluxe rooms (pictured above) measure 17 square metres. With two single beds, they can accommodate up to three people.
Deluxe family rooms also measure 17 square metres. They can have either one queen size bed and one single bed or three single beds. They can accommodate up to three people.
The facilities …
Corporate travelers have access to fully-furnished conference rooms for private business meetings.
Other facilities include a 24-our fitness centre, an Internet corner, laundry service, and parking.
The Location …
Travelodge Dongdaemun is located in front of Euljiro 4-ga Subway Station. It is close to Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station, Heunginjimun Gate, and Dongdaemun Seonggwak Park.
The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Gwangjang Market, Pyounghwa Fashion Town, and multi-level fashion plazas Doota, Migliore, and Hello apM, which stay open into the early hours of the morning.
Euljiro is newly gentrified neighbourhood with independent artist studios, quirky cafes, record shops, and hidden bars.
The hotel is two subway stations away from Myeongdong, which offers tax-free shopping across a huge range of luxury and high street fashion and cosmetics brands.
The surrounding streets come alive at night with neon lights and regular live concerts and dance performances.
Transport
Travelodge Dongdaemun is 29 kilometres, or 17 mile drive, from Gimpo International Airport, which is served primarily by domestic airlines. The drive to the airport takes about 30 minutes.
The hotel is 62 kilometres, or 39 miles, from Incheon International Airport, which is Korea’s primary international air field, with flights linking the country to the four corners of the globe. The drive to the airport takes about one hour.
The hotel is located four kilometres, or three miles, from Cheongnyangni Station, which is Seoul’s terminus for passenger trains serving the eastern parts of South Korea. The trip to the station takes about 20 minutes by metro.
The hotel is located four kilometres, or three miles, from Seoul Station, which is served by South Korea’s high speed rail system along the major Gyeongbu Line. The trip to the station takes about 25 minutes by bus.
