Minnesota Timberwolves Team History
The Minnesota Timberwolves are a professional American basketball team. They compete in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
In fact, the Wolves are the second professional basketball team to call Minneapolis home.
The Lakers were established in 1947. Originally, the team was based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Because Minnesota is known as “The Land of Lakes,” the team was named Minneapolis Lakers.
The Minneapolis Lakers departed for Los Angeles in 1960. Consequently, they changed their to the Los Angeles Lakers. But it seems a little strange as L.A. is not exactly known for its lakes.
Perhaps the team kept the name because it created an alliteration. In fact, both Los Angeles and Lakers begin with an “L”!
While the Minnesota Timberwolves were founded in 1989, they have never won an NBA championship. In fact, they have never even won a conference title. But they did win a division title in 2004.
The Wolves play home games at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Moreover,the Minnesota Linx of the Women’s National Basketball Association also play home games at Target Center.
