70 Days Across America

CREAM Concord is an ice cream parlor scooping up decadent desserts. And the focus is on ice cream sandwiches made to order. You choose your base, ice cream, and topping. And they make it then and there. A short walk from Todos Santos Square in downtown Concord.

Why I’m Here …

So what am I doing in Concord?

Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County, California. It is about 29 miles (47 kilometers) east of San Francisco. And it is 22 miles (35 kilometers) east of Oakland.

More importantly, Concord was one of the first stops on the Northern California leg of my epic trip, 70 Days Across America.

My previous stops included San FranciscoLos Altos, and Napa.

My stay in Concord was arranged by Visit ConcordThe tourism board describes Concord as a Northern California Original. And in my opinion, it really is.

Cream Concord scoops up the yummiest ice cream sandwiches I have ever sunken my teeth into.

And what I liked best is they were assembled right before my very eyes!

First, I had to select my base. I could  choose from nine kinds of cookies, three kinds of mini cookies, brownies, glazed do’sants (donuts and croissants), and waffles.

If I had a dietary restriction, there were vegan and gluten-free options.

Then I had to choose the flavor of my super-premium ice cream. In fact, there were fully 21 flavors to choose from.

Again, if I had a dietary restriction, I could choose a vegan or gluten-free ice cream.

Finally, I had to decide what kind of topping I wanted. The list wasn’t quite as long as the flavors of ice cream. For there were only 17 toppings to tempt me.

Decisions, decisions, decisions! Certainly, this was an exercise indulgence!

In addition to Ice Cream Sandwiches ,Cream Concord serves ice cream tacos, ice cream sundaes, ice cream scoops, milkshakes, malts, shakes, cakes, pints, and baked goodies.

CREAM History

Cream is a Northern California original. The first shop opened in nearby Berkeley, home of the University of California, in 2010.

Since then, shops have opened in other Bay Area cities including Alameda, Cupertino, Fremont, Livermore, Milpitas, Napa, Oakland, Palo Alto, San Francisco, San Jose, Vallejo, Walnut Creek – the list goes on.

And by the way, CREAM is not a word – it’s an acronym. It stands for cookies rule everything around me!

CREAM Concord – the Verdict

Oh, my goodness! What a perfect end to a very yummy day!

I have to confess, I’m don’t have much of a sweet touch. In fact, I usually forego desserts. However, this ice cream sandwich was to die for.

The cookie I chose was still warm, but it didn’t melt the ice cream. While it was chewy, it also had a thin veneer of  crunch. And the ice cream I chose was pure decadence.

To top it all, the staff were enthusiasm personified. They clearly enjoyed their jobs, and they were very proud of their product.

I am compelled to give CREAM Concord two VERY enthusiastic thumbs up!!!
