Sweden in August – a good time to visit? The weather in Sweden remains pleasant in August, with warm temps and long days. Swedes pride themselves on inclusiveness and gender equality.  And no time is that more evident than in August, with Scandinavia’s largest pride parade in Stockholm.

From  Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north, Pride celebrations are held in summer and fall each year throughout Sweden. And activities include conferences, lectures, performances, and Pride parades.

Not surprisingly, the biggest celebrations are held in Stockholm, the nation’s capital. And each year there is a different theme.

Pride Parade – 5 August 2023

The Pride Parade will wind its way through Central Stockholm. As the largest pride parade in Scandinavia, it usually attracts about 60,000 people.

Weather in Sweden in August

The weather in August is relatively warm. However, adults are returning to work. And children are returning to school. If you are lucky, you might be able to attend a crayfish party!

Stockholm is Sweden’s largest city. In addition, it is the nation’s capital.

Built on a series of islands, Stockholm is a stunningly beautiful city with countless lakes, bays, canals, and wetlands.

The average high temperature in Stockholm in August is 21 degrees Celsius, or 73 degrees Fahrenheit. At night, the temperature drops to an average low of 14 degrees Celsius, or 58 degrees Fahrenheit.

 

Gothenburg Weather in August

Gothenburg is Sweden’s second-largest city. And it is located on the country’s west coast.

The average high is in Gothenburg in August is 21 Celsius, or 70 Fahrenheit. And the average low is 12 degrees Celsius, or 54 degrees Fahrenheit.

Malmo Weather in August

Malmo is Sweden’s third-largest city. And it sits at the southwestern tip of Sweden. It is across the Oresund River from Copenhagen, Denmark. 

The average high temperature in Malmo in August is 22 degrees Celsius, or 71 degrees Fahrenheit. At night, the temperature drops to an average low of 14 degrees Celsius, or 57 degrees Fahrenheit.

Uppala is Sweden’s fourth-largest city. And it is 71 kilometers, or 44 miles, north of Stockholm. 

The average high temperature in Uppsala in August is 21 degrees Celsius, or 70 degrees Fahrenheit. At night, the temperature drops to an average low of 12 degrees Celsius, or 53 degrees Fahrenheit.

Umea Weather in August

Umea is Sweden’s 13th largest city. And it is the gateway to Swedish Lapland.

The average high temperature in Umea in August is 20 degrees Celsius, or 68 degrees Fahrenheit. But at night, the temperature drops to an average low of 10 degrees Celsius, or 49 degrees Fahrenheit.

What to Pack

August is one of the best months of the year to visit Sweden. In fact, it is the ideal season for outdoor activities.

You won’t need to pack a lot of extra clothes. But keep in mind that it can get chilly at night so bring layers. And it does rain occasionally, so bring an umbrella.
