Lounge is a private club for members and patrons of M+, Hong Kong’s newly opened museum of visual culture. Located on the museum’s 11th floor, it offers spectacular views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline. And it serves food and drinks in a collection of art-filled spaces.

M+ Lounge – the Back Story
To complicate matters, I live in a rural district. And I don’t have a car. So it is unlikely I could use the faculties often enough to justify the cost.
Then I discovered that M+, Hong Kong’s newly opened museum of visual culture, was offering members access to a private club, M+ Lounge. Not only was there no debenture. In addition, the annual fee was quite reasonable.
Should I join?
I was hoping to check out the lounge before taking out a membership. Unfortunately, that was not allowed. I Whereas I don’t usually opt for a pig in the poke. After giving it a few moments of thought, I decided to sign up anyway, hoping for the best.
And when I visited the place a few minutes later, I was very pleasantly surprised! In fact, it far exceeded my expectations! So why were they reluctant to show it off?
M+ Lounge Ambiance
Where to sit? Quite frankly, we were spoiled for choice! Simply put, the lounge was much more spacious than I had expected! And since there were several spaces, each space offered a sense of intimacy.
In addition, each space had a slightly different vibe. For example, there were several tables with two chairs set alongside the windows. And they offered spectacular views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline.
And there was a space resembling a living room, where a sofa, two armchairs, and a padded bench surrounded a coffee table. In addition, several bar stools lined a counter. The list goes on.
In fact, the lounge was designed by William Lim, a renowned architect, artist, and collector. And he incorporated pieces of furniture and works of art from the Living Collection, which was established by William and Lavina Lim.
Apparently, the space will undergo a complete makeover every few years.
M+ Lounge Menu
The lounge serves an eclectic menu of pan-Asian dishes. And it includes both hot and cold bites, bakeries, quiche, toasted sandwiches, premium caviar, cakes, and sweets.
You can wash them down with juices, teas, coffees, mineral water, beers, wines, cocktails, sakes, and champagne.
On my first visit, I ordered a panini sandwich, spring rolls, and humus. And everything was delicious. I will make sure to post more photos on future visits!
Membership Benefits
In addition to access to the lounge, M+ members enjoy a host of privileges.
For example, they are entitled to priority lanes, priority bookings, membership-only exhibition viewing hours, free admission to galleries, selected exhibitions, and cinema screenings.
Furthermore, members get discounts at the museum’s two gift shops.
West Kowloon Cultural District
M+ is the first museum to open at the West Kowloon Cultural District, a collection of cultural venues and open spaces.
Future museums will include the Hong Kong Palace Museum, which is scheduled to open in July 2022.
Ground has already broken on the Lyric Theatre Complex. And Xiqu Centre, which is dedicated to Chinese Opera, is already up and running. Open spaces include Art Park and Freespace.

This isn’t a re-do. The museum has only been open a few weeks! BTW, the museum was built on landfill, so I don’t think this part of Hong Kong existed on your last visit. Would love to take you there if you ever make it back to Hong Kong.

YES! It is VERY affordable. I tend to avoid prices in blog posts because they can sometimes be complicated. Also, they can change. .Anyway, the annual membership for one is HK$600, and for two it is HK$1,000. It’s open six days a week (closed Mondays) from 10 am to 6 pm (except Fridays, when it remains open until 10 pm).
