Phey Palma is one of nine finalists in the Affordable Art Fair’s “Discovery: Photography  Prize” competition, which is being held in conjunction with Hotel Jen.

Phey’s photograph (pictured above) is entitled “Nowadays”. The work catches a photographer photographing a street scene in one of Hong Kong’s many bustling street markets with her mobile device.

The work seems to portray the essence of the competition, which is described as a “hunt for Hong Kong’s best photographers who left boring behind and captured the city’s streets through their lenses”.

The photograph captures a street scene that is uniquely Hong Kong. Not only that, it also reflects the zeitgeist of this particular moment in time.

A mosaic of the other eight qualifying photographs follows. Hover over the works for the names of the artists and the name of their works.

Works by the nine photographers will be shown at the fair, which will be held from 18 to 20 May 2018 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island.

A winner will be selected by the public both on site at the fair and on social media. The prize will be a 30-day solo exhibition at Hotel Jen properties in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Singapore.

Voters will get the chance to win a complimentary two nights’ stay at  Hotel Jen in Puteri Harbour in Malaysia, Hotel Jen Tanglin in Singapore, or Hotel Jen Penang in Malaysia.

This exhibition is described by organizers as a great place for seasoned collectors looking to add fresh new artists to their existing collections as well as for new buyers wanting to kick start their own collections.

The Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong is now in its six year.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

I took the following photographs at a preview of the Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong that was held the day before it opened to the general public in 2016.

Many of the fair-goers toured the fair with glasses of champagne in their hands.

Attracting more galleries and more attendees each year, the fair has a simple concept: to create an ‘inspiring and friendly atmosphere’ in which art lovers can find ‘thousands of original paintings, prints, sculpture, and photography all under one roof’.
