Best Pattaya Chinese Restaurant?
During a three day visit to Pattaya, Thailand, my traveling companion and I were hosted for two nights by the Cape Dara Beachfront Resort. During our stay, we a devoured a mouth-watering lunch at Ming Xing, the resort hotel’s fine-dining Chinese restaurant.
One of six food and beverage outlets at the Cape Dara Beachfront Resort in Pattaya, Thailand, Ming Xing is a stylish Chinese restaurant serving mouth-watering Cantonese cuisine with a focus onHong Kong-style dim sum.
Wok-fried noodles and noodle soups are also featured. There are three simple but very yummy Chinese style desserts.
If you’re in the mood for a more substantial meal, the talented chefs can also cook pork, beef, chicken, lamb, and various kinds of seafood to order.
Just tell them how you’d like it prepared, and they’ll cook it according to your preference.
The lobster, grouper, scallops, abalone, and sea cucumber are highly recommended. Vegetarian dishes can also be prepared.
The Chinese Appetizer …
My dining companion got off to a yummy start with the light and refreshing seaweed and wakame salad, a Chinese appetizer.
The Noodles …
We moved on to the wonton soup with barbecue pork (top) and the rice noodles with seafood (bottom). Both were excellent. I particularly liked the wonton soup with barbecue pork.
Altogether, the restaurant serves four kinds of noodle soup and eight kinds of wok-fried noodles.
In addition to rice noodles, the restaurant serves fried yellow noodles fried vermicelli, e-fu noodles, crispy yellow noodles, and crispy vermicelli.
In addition to wonton soup, the restaurant also serves yellow noodles with barbecue pork or barbecue duck, rice noodles with braised beef, and Shanghai noodles with pork.
The Dim Sum …
The restaurant serves Hong Kong-style dim sum, which is either steamed or fried, ranging from pork dumplings and shrimp dumplings to spring rolls, barbecue pork buns, deep-fried bean curd, and rice noodles stuffed with chicken – all standard fare at Cantonese teahouses.
The Desserts …
There were three kinds of Chinese dessert on the menu, and we tried all three: black sesame dumplings in ginger syrup (left rear), mango pudding with vanilla cream (front left), and chilled sago seed and cantaloupe melon with condensed milk.
The Decor …
In terms of decor, this was one of the loveliest Chinese restaurants I have ever eaten at, and I’ve eaten at quite a few Chinese restaurants in my day.
The dining room had an off-white and dark rose palette with gunmetal grey accents. The chairs and chandeliers were a matching dark brown.
Seating included cave-like booths along the interior wall and open booths next to the window with a view of the garden outside.
Chinese style round tables seated eight – an auspicious number in Chinese culture because it signifies fortune.
There are two private rooms seating 10 each. They can be combined into one large space.
There is also a spacious area where guests can sit on benches while waiting to be seated at their table.
The Chinese style latticework was especially attractive.
The Verdict …
The stylish eatery pushed all the right buttons. The Hong Kong style dim-sum was as good as any I’ve had in Hong Kong, and that’s not faint praise because I’ve spent a total of nearly 30 years in Hong Kong.
I would love to go back for dinner to try some of the dishes, which I was told could be cooked to order.
As for the decor, I thought the place was absolutely charming. The designers took some time-honoured Chinese design elements – such as round tables, moon gates, and latticework – and gave them a very contemporary twist.
The colour scheme was unusually bright and cheerful, reflecting the restaurant’s tropical location.
I’ve always thought that Thailand was number one in Asia for interior design, and this stylish restaurant added credibility to that judgment.
