Hong Kong Restaurant Review: Studio Lounge at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel

Studio Lounge is one of three food and beverage outlets at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel near Hong Kong Disneyland on Lantau Island. The Art Deco eatery is open for afternoon tea, leisurely dinners, evening cocktails, and late-night snacks.

Where to Eat at Hong Kong Disneyland

Studio Lounge is located off the lobby of Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, where I was going to spend the first night of a three-day, two-night visit to Hong Kong Disneyland.

I had been invited on a MICE Showcase Media Tour, which had been organized to familiarize journalists with the world-class facilities that Hong Kong Disneyland has to offer organizers of meetings, incentives, conferences, and events (MICE) as well as wedding planners.

Comprising journalists, food critics, and travel bloggers from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, we were asked to gather in the lounge, where we were invited order whatever we wanted from the a la carte menu.

Afternoon Tea

Our tour began with afternoon tea at Studio Lounge, where we were allowed to order off the a la carte menu.

Fortunately, I had skipped breakfast and had just made myself a garden salad at home for lunch.

I took one look inside Studio Lounge, and it was love at first sight.

One of three food and beverage outlets at the Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, it reflects hostelry’s Art Deco theme, the dominant architectural style during Hollywood’s Golden Era.

The lines were boldly geometrical, and the colours were bright. There were the exotic (if subtle) influences of ancient civilizations.

And – in an era when designers were striving to break loose from the fussiness of the Victorian area – there was lots of chrome.

A La Carte Menu

The menu runs from appetizers to entrees. —including Cantonese wonton noodle soup, succulent Hainanese chicken rice, nasi goreng fried rice, rich pastas, sizzling rib-eye steak, juicy cheeseburgers, and made-to-order pizza.

I never got past the barbecue spareribs, which did not disappoint. They came with French fries served in a bucket and with tomato ketchup served Mickey Mouse style in a dish.

I washed them down with a Ginger Mojito. A very sweet mocktail arrived at my table before I had finished drinking it.

A Halal menu is available upon request.

The Ambiance ...

The lounge is bathed in sunlight thanks to the floor to ceiling windows, which engulf the room on three sides, overlooking the resort’s tropically landscaped gardens.

There are subtle show-biz touches, such as the movie director’s board at the entrance. The magenta, lavender, pink, and orange colour scheme is actually quite relaxing.

It reminded me a bit of the Business Class cabin of the Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner I flew to Stockholm, Sweden, on a couple of years back.

The Verdict …

I really liked the laid-back ambiance of Studio Lounge. It was the perfect setting for afternoon tea or evening cocktails.

As for the food, the spareribs were meaty and succulent. And the sauce was to die for. The French fries, meanwhile, were as good as they get.

The Hours …

Studio Lounge is open daily from 11 am to 11.30 pm.

Always double check hours before heading to the restaurant.

The Other Outlets …

Studio Lounge  is one of three  food and beverage outlets at Disney’s Hollywood  Hotel. The other outlets include …

  • Chef Mickey – an informal family style restaurant serving daily buffets at breakfast and dinner and lunch buffets on weekends and holidays.
  • Hollywood and Dine – a quick service restaurant, Hollywood and Dine (whose name plays on the legendary intersection of Hollywood and Vine) serves Asian and Western favourites.
