Food & Beverage

A hotel restaurant in Hong Kong is challenging glutinous foodies to gobble down 800 grams of ground beef and fries in just 40 minutes. The prize? Successful diners won’t have to pay the HK$666 that the gargantuan set meal would usually cost.

Hong Kong Hamburger Challenge

Is this a heart attack on a plate or what?

Mirage Bar & Restaurant at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel is serving an OMG Burger set meal that might just give you a cardiac arrest reading about it!

Priced at HK$666 (approximately US$85), the OMG Burger consists of an 800 gram beef paddy that is  topped with 12 strips of extra crispy smoked bacon, four fried eggs, a whole caramelized onion, tomato slices, and lettuce.

It is served with crispy steak house chips or sweet potato fries.

If you’re not familiar with metric, 800 grams works out to 28-plus ounces or nearly 1.77 pounds of beef!

So here’s the challenge: If you can finish the whole deal in 40 minutes, the meal is on the house.

The Hong Kong Burger Challenge runs from 18 March through 30 April. And it’s no coincidence that it coincides with the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, which runs from 5 to 7 April.

I’m sure you will see quite a few hunky rugby players taking up the challenge in the runup to the tournament.

  1. Good to see the Renaissance Harbour View hotel promoting binge eating and encouraging obesity… How very responsible!

  2. Think you will find Renaissance is a five star hotel mate. And is it a paddy or a patty? Either way damned big… haha

    1. LOL! I wrote about it, but I’m not about to eat it – unless I could share it with about 10 other people.
