Spurs Team History
The San Antonio Spurs are a professional basketball team. They play in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The team plays home games at AT&T Center, a multi-purpose indoor sports facility in San Antonio, Texas. In addition to the Spurs, the arena is home of the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League.
The Spurs were founded in 1967 as the Dallas Chaparrals, playing in the American Basketball Association (ABA).
The team moved to San Antonio in 1973 and was renamed the San Antonio Spurs. When the NBA and the ABA merged in 1976, the Spurs were one of four ABA teams to survive the merger.
The Spurs have won 22 division titles, six conference titles, and five NBA championships. The team has made 22 consecutive trips to the playoffs, matching an NBA record.
