Now in its 24th year, Le French May is a 2 month celebration of Gallic culture. This year’s festival includes performances, films, exhibitions, and gastronomy – with a spotlight on Alsace.

Le French May is a 2 month celebration of French culture, with more than 120 programmes across Hong Kong and Macau.

Le French May is arguably Hong Kong’s 2nd most important arts festival of the year after the Hong Kong Arts Festival, which takes place in winter. Is Le French May the harbinger of spring?

As an ancillary event to Le French May, Le French GourMay sees more than 60 eateries – from bistros to cafes to fine dining hotel restaurants – serving special menus, with a focus this year on the Alsace region of Northern France.

Food and wine importers will also put a spotlight on the region with promotions, tastings, workshops, and other activities.

Over a 60 day period, there are more than 120 prograrmmes ranging from live performances to films, exhibitions to gastronomy.

They are held at cultural centres, educational institutions, public spaces, the racecourse, and shopping malls.

More than 2 million people attend Le French May activities each year.

Here is a preview of what’s in store …

  • Performances – There will be live performances of classical music, dance, Electro music, jazz, Pop music, opera, and theatre at various public and private venues around Hong Kong. 
  • Films – French cinema and television will be shown at Broadway Cinematheque, Palace IFC, and Azure Restaurant Slash Bar. 
  • Exhibitions – There will be exhibitions of heritage, contemporary art, design, fashion, photography, and modern art at various  venues around Hong Kong. 
  • Gastronomy – In conjunction with Le French May, restaurants throughout Hong Kong will offer special promotions under the auspicious of Le French GourMay. Each year a different region is featured. 

Le French May seems to get bigger and better each time around. The Gallic arts festival is now in its 24th year.
