Amazing Thailand

The Cachet Resort Dewa Phuket was one of four hotels I stayed at in Phuket, a popular tourist destination in Southern Thailand.

The resort was the third property I stayed at on a seven-night visit to the island. I spent one hosted night at the hotel.

The Arrival …

Following a two night stay at the Proud Phuket Hotel, I was driven to the Cachet Resort Dewa Phuket, which was located just a short drive down the street.

The Welcome …

I was served a delicious mocktail in the hotel’s open-air lobby while I was checked in. Then I was escorted to my room.

My Room …

I stayed in room 4209, one of the hotel’s 56 deluxe rooms, which measure from 37 to 43 square metres.

The room had an undeniable industrial chic, with polished concrete floors, exposed ceilings, mahogany furniture, and a suspended ceiling lamp that looked right out of a factory.

There was spacious workstation at one end of the room and a very practical open closet at the other end, which – thanks to its no-nonsense layout – could serve mutliple purposes.

There was also a comfortable armchair and a small table as well as a flat screen television suspended on the wall over the workstation.

In addition to the deluxe rooms such as mine, the hotel has 25 suites measuring 67 square metres, 18 family suites measuring 110 to 145 square metres, and 13 pool villas measuring 70 to 100 square metres.

The Bathroom …

The bathroom was compact. It had a single vanity with a white and  gray marble counter, a walk-in shower, and a toilet.

The walls and floor were finished in polished concrete.

The Balcony …

The balcony had a table with two chairs and an ashtray. Smoking was not allowed in the room, but guests were allowed to smoke on the balcony.

The View …

The balcony had a view of the property, which was landscaped with tropical plants. There was a swimming pool beyond the trees.

The Mini Bar ...

The minibar had coffee- and tea-making facilties as well as a bottle of wine, beer, soft drinks, and a few packaged snacks.

The Breakfast …

Breakfast was served at the Aleta Seafood Bar and Grill, one of the hotel’s three food-and-beverage outlets.

Overlooking one of the hotel’s two swimming pools, the open-air eatery had the usual selection of breakfast dishes, ranging from local favourites to international comfort food.

It was fun playing the part of barrista, trying to operate the self-service espresso machines!

The Swimming Pools …

The hotel had two swimming pools, a free-form pool at the front of the property and an angular L-shaped pool at the back of the property.

I did laps for one hour in the pool at the back of the property. Its angular shape and sufficient depth made it an excellent pool to do laps in.

I particularly liked the fact that there were no tall buildings casting long shadows on it. I prefer swimming pools that are bathed in sunlight, and it was bathed in sunlight throughout the day.

The Fitness Centre …

The hotel had a spacious gym with equipment by Life Fitness. There were three treadmills, three stationary bicycles, and three cross trainers.

There were  also resistance training machines and a full complement of dumbbells and adjusables benches.

There was a pingpong table outside the gym as well as a kids club.

The Location …

The  hotel was across the street from Nai Yang Beach and adjacent to Nai Yang National Park.

There were minimart and a shop selling snacks, beachwear, alcoholic beverages, souvenirs, and medicines a short walk up the street and numerous other minimarts, food and beverage outlets, boutiques, day spas, and roadside vendors about a 10 minute walk down the road.

How to Get There

Phupket is an island so most visiors arrive by air, and Phuket International Airport is a 10 minute drive from the hotel.

The airport is served by both domestic and international airlines, with nonstop links to many cities in Asia and the Middle East.

The Verdict …

The hotel had an undeniable vibe. The room had a very efficient layout. The quality of the breakfast buffet was definitely above average.

As resorts go, the gym was better equipped than most, and the swimming pool at the back of the property was perfect for doing laps.

The hotel’s location is hard to beat, close to both beaches, parkland, a bustling commercial strip, and an international airport.
