Aviation: United Airlines Takes Delivery of 8,000th Boeing 737

Airline News

They don’t call it the world’s most popular airliner for nothing! Boeing has delivered its 8,000th 737 to United Airlines – a Next Generation 737-900ER. The airplane manufacturer has a backlog of 3,700 airliners on order.

United has had a long relationship with Boeing going back to the early days of aviation. In 1933, United took delivery of its first Boeing 247, the world’s first all-metal airliner. It could fly coast to coast in 20 hours – making several stops along the way.

The first airline to order and take delivery of the 737-200 in the 1960s, United Airlines has taken delivery of more than 550 737s over the years. The airline has operated nearly every model of the popular airplane.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate this huge achievement with Boeing,” says Ron Baur, Vice President of Fleet, United Airlines.

“The 737 has been an integral part of our narrow body fleet and we are pleased to continue this tradition by being the North American launch customer for the new 737 MAX 9.”

The first airliner in history to reach the 8,000 mark, the Boeing 737 is often referred to as the most popular airliner in history.

New Features and Techologies

“The 737 programme continues to innovate with new features and technology, meeting the needs of our customers now and into the future,” said Beverly Wyse, Vice President and General Manager, 737 Program, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
