Azerbaijan: Airline Takes Delivery of Its First Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Azerbaijan Airlines takes delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, becoming the first airline in the Commonwealth of Independent States to take delivery of the technologically advanced aircraft.

Azerbaijan Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which will play a key role in the airline’s strategic plan to spread its wings to more long-range travel destinations in the Americas, Asia, and other parts of the world.

“We are delighted to receive this revolutionary airplane, which will help Azerbaijan Airlines increase its competitiveness both regionally and internationally,” says Azerbaijan Airlines President Jahangir Askerov.

“The airplane, with its unique onboard features, will provide an unrivaled passenger experience with an unmatched level of comfort.”

The technologicaly advanced Boeing 787 offers a more pleasant on board experience for passengers while providing airlines with greater fuel efficiency, consuming 20% less fuel. Its carbon footprint, meanwhile, is 20% lower, as well.

Heydar Aliyev International Airport

The national carrier of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Airlines is based at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, the nation’s capital.

The airline currently flies to more than 20 travel destinations across the Commonwealth of Independent States as well as China, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.

The Commonwealth of Independent States is a loose association of countries that were formerly republics of the Soviet Union. It was established following the breakup of the USSR in 1991.

Shortly after the breakup, the government of Azerbaijan announced that it would set up Azerbaijan Airlines, which would be formed from the regional branch of Aeroflot , the USSR’s flag carrier.

The airline inherited a fleet of aircraft from Aeroflot, including many Soviet made Tupolev aircraft. The carrier stopped operating Tupolev aircraft in 2010.

The airline’s fleet is now exclusively composed of Boeing, Airbus, Embraer airliners.
